Do's and Don'ts
Your quick guide to staying safe online โ save it, remember it!
Do's
- Tell a parent, teacher, or trusted adult if someone online makes you feel uncomfortable, confused, or scared
- Use a strong, private password and keep it secret โ even from friends
- Check with a parent before downloading a new app or game
- Think before you post: "Would I be okay if my parent saw this?"
- Log off or block someone if they're being mean or make you uneasy โ you're allowed to do this any time
- Ask a parent before buying anything in a game or app
- Keep your profile private โ only approved friends and family can see it
Don'ts
- Don't share your full name, school, home address, or phone number with people you only know online
- Don't share photos or videos that show where you live, your school uniform, or your daily routine
- Don't accept friend requests from people you don't know in real life
- Don't agree to meet up in person with someone you only met online
- Don't share your passwords with anyone โ even a friend
- Don't respond to messages that ask you to "keep this between us" โ tell a trusted adult instead
- Don't click links or download files sent by strangers, even if they look exciting or urgent
Remember!
If something online ever feels wrong, scary, or confusing โ tell a trusted adult right away. You will never be in trouble for telling.
