Vertical-crosswise multiplication for any two 2-digit numbers

The Rule

  1. 1Works for any two numbers — split each into tens and units digits.
  2. 2Right part: multiply the two units digits together.
  3. 3Middle part: cross-multiply both ways and add the results (tens×units + units×tens).
  4. 4Left part: multiply the two tens digits together.
  5. 5Write the right digit, carry into the middle; write the middle digit, carry into the left.
