Division by 9

Running digit sums give the quotient and the remainder

The Rule

  1. 1Write the running totals of the digits, left to right.
  2. 2All totals except the last are the quotient digits (carry if a total is 10 or more).
  3. 3The last total (the full digit sum) is the remainder.
  4. 4If the remainder is 9 or more, take out the 9s and add them to the quotient.
