Recognize common percentages as simple fractions to divide instead of multiply

The Rule

  1. 1Memorize the common percentage-fraction pairs: 50%=1/2, 25%=1/4, 20%=1/5, 12.5%=1/8, and so on.
  2. 2To find X% of Y, divide Y by the fraction's denominator, then multiply by its numerator.
  3. 3This turns an awkward percentage multiplication into simple division.
