Left-to-Right Addition

Add big numbers by starting from the biggest place value, not the smallest

The Rule

  1. 1Break both numbers into place values (hundreds, tens, units, ...).
  2. 2Add the biggest place values first, then the next, keeping a running total as you go.
  3. 3By the time you reach the units, you already have the final answer — no carrying back and forth.
